MarryShia Privacy Policy
Last Updated:
Applies to the MarryShia app and websiteContents
1. Who We Are
MarryShia ("MarryShia," "we," "our," or "us") provides a faith-aligned community and member-discovery service for Shia Muslims. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information through our mobile applications, website, and related services (collectively, the "Services").
2. Information We Collect
Account and profile information
We collect information you provide to create and use an account, such as your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, gender, profile photos, biography, hobbies, education, occupation, marital and family preferences, and member-discovery preferences.
Sensitive profile information
We collect religious affiliation and practice, ethnic background, and related profile details that you provide. These details are used to operate the member-discovery and filtering features you choose to use.
Location information
We collect the city, state, and country you include in your profile. If you grant the app foreground location permission, we also collect your device's precise location coordinates to provide location-based member discovery. You can decline or revoke this permission in your device settings.
Community, messaging, and support content
We collect content you create or send through the Services, including Community posts, comments, reactions, reports, feedback, direct-message requests, and messages exchanged with other members. We also collect information about safety actions, such as reports, blocks, and ended conversations.
Photos and other media
We collect profile photos and images you choose to attach to Community posts or comments. We process these images to store, display, moderate, and protect the Services.
Purchase information
When you purchase MarryShia Premium, we receive information needed to verify and manage the purchase, such as the product identifier, transaction or receipt identifier, subscription status, and expiration date. Apple and Google process payment-card information; we do not receive or store your payment-card number.
Device, usage, and diagnostic information
We collect device and service information such as a generated app-install identifier, push-notification token, platform, operating-system version, app version, IP address, log-in activity, and feature usage. This includes screens viewed, taps, notification interactions, member-discovery activity, crash reports, performance information, and error logs.
Sign-in information
If you choose Sign in with Apple, Google, or email verification, we receive the account identifiers and information the provider or sign-in method makes available to us, such as your name and email address.
3. How We Use Information

- Provide Community, events, member discovery, direct messaging, notifications, and Premium features.
- Personalize member-discovery results using the preferences and profile information you provide.
- Process and verify purchases, restore purchases, and prevent purchase fraud.

4. How We Share Information
We share personal information only as needed to operate the Services, comply with law, or protect members and the Services.
- Other members: Your profile details, profile photos, and Community content may be visible to other signed-in members according to the feature and privacy settings you use. Messages are shared with their intended recipients.
- Service providers: We use providers for hosting and storage, account authentication, notifications, messaging, analytics, crash reporting, diagnostics, and purchase processing.
- Safety and moderation: Authorized MarryShia administrators may review reports, related content, and account information to investigate abuse and enforce our rules.
- Legal and business purposes: We may disclose information where required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets.
Key service providers
- Google Firebase: authentication, push notifications, analytics, crash reporting, and remote configuration.
- Stream Chat: direct messaging and message-notification delivery.
- Sentry: production error, performance, feedback, and session-replay diagnostics.
- Apple and Google: sign-in and in-app purchase processing, as applicable.
5. Analytics, Diagnostics, and Tracking
We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand feature use and diagnose reliability issues. We use Sentry in production to collect error and performance diagnostics. Sentry may receive account identifiers, IP address, technical information, error context, feedback, and session-replay data when diagnosing an issue.
The MarryShia mobile app does not use personal information to track you across other companies' apps or websites for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information for money.
Our website may use essential cookies and similar technologies. If we enable optional website analytics or advertising technologies, we will provide any notice or consent required by applicable law and update this policy as needed.
6. Retention and Account Deletion
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services, maintain security, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our agreements.
Deleting your MarryShia account
You can request account deletion in the app through Account > Settings > Delete Account. When you delete your account, we delete your MarryShia account and profile information from our active systems. This includes your profile, photos, matches, conversations, Community posts and replies, feedback, and other account data associated with your MarryShia profile.
Temporary provider-cleanup record
To complete deletion with our service providers, we temporarily retain only the minimum technical information needed to complete that task: an external provider account identifier and paths to stored media. We use this limited record only to remove your authentication account, direct-message account and messages, and stored media from providers such as Firebase, Stream Chat, and our media-storage provider.
We automatically retry this provider cleanup for up to 30 days. It normally completes within minutes. If a provider is temporarily unavailable after that 30-day period, we retain the same limited technical record only until required manual provider cleanup is completed. The temporary cleanup record is deleted once provider cleanup is confirmed. We do not retain your name, email address, profile details, or deleted content as part of this cleanup record.
Subscriptions
Deleting your MarryShia account does not cancel an Apple App Store or Google Play subscription. You must cancel an active subscription through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings to prevent future billing. Account deletion does not affect any rights you may have to a refund under the applicable store's policies or applicable law.
Legal and safety exceptions
We may retain limited information where necessary to comply with law, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or abuse, protect the safety of members or the public, or enforce our agreements. Where we retain information for these purposes, we limit it to what is necessary and retain it only for the required period.
7. Your Choices and Privacy Rights
- Profile and privacy settings: You can edit profile information, control profile visibility, blur photos, manage in-app notifications, and manage location permission through the app and your device settings.
- Push notifications: You can disable push notifications through your device settings.
- Access, correction, and deletion: Depending on applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information.
- Marketing: If we send promotional communications, you may opt out using the unsubscribe instructions or by contacting us. Service-related and legal notices may still be sent.
To make a privacy request, email contact@marryshia.app. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No system is completely secure, so please protect your account credentials and report suspected misuse to us promptly.
9. Children
The Services are intended only for people 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate action.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as our Services or legal obligations change. When we make material changes, we will update the Last Updated date and provide additional notice when required.
